Howard Opinsky is a Managing Director at S-3 and leader of the firm’s public affairs business. He is a communication expert who has spent his career at the intersection of reputation, regulation, and public opinion. He utilizes a combination of experiences from the highest levels of business and politics to deliver insights and achieve outcomes for clients. Throughout his career, he has worked on many types of political and policy campaigns, corporate and personal reputation matters, and special situations including activist campaigns, regulatory investigations, corporate litigation, cyber breaches, CEO transitions, and safety matters. Howard provides data analysis, strategy, training, and program implementation for corporations, governments, executives, non-profits, policy organizations, and high-profile clients around the world.
Howard was a senior consultant and agency leader at Hill and Knowlton Strategies (H+K) and Weber Shandwick for over 15 years. He worked with clients at both firms to mold their reputations, manage crises, and achieve public policy goals. Howard has a wealth of experience counseling C-suite executives, public board members, and other senior executives who he has advised on issues management, thought leadership, and corporate strategy. He has also helped several major corporations prepare and manage their reputations amid cyber breaches and developed digital engagement strategies that prevent and mitigate the impact and length of reputational threats. Previously Howard was President of Five Blocks, a digital reputation management consultancy, and a Managing Director of Corporate Communications at JPMorgan Chase.
Howard’s clients have included C.V. Starr, Deloitte, Home Depot, HSBC, Koch Industries, Mattel, Nasdaq, Northrop Grumman, P&G, Sallie Mae, Target, Vulcan Inc., the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Business Roundtable and the governments of the United States, Mexico, and Colombia. In addition, Howard led H+K’s Corporate & Crisis and Public Affairs Practices and he managed the firm’s US Eastern Region.
Prior to becoming a business consultant, Howard was a political strategist and communication advisor to several candidates and causes. He served as a presidential campaign aide and strategic advisor to U.S. Senator John McCain and continues to advise The McCain Institute for International Leadership.
Howard holds a Bachelor of Arts in political communication from The George Washington University (GWU) where he is currently a member of the National Council of the School of Media & Public Affairs (SMPA).
