Chris Arneson is a 15-year veteran of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee, where he served as one of the panel’s top staffers. He has a proven track record of leveraging his deep policy knowledge, far-reaching professional network, and strategic communications expertise to build coalitions and shape the political narrative to achieve policy outcomes.
During his time with the Finance Committee he served under Chairmen Baucus and Wyden. He was a key member of the committee’s senior management team overseeing policy coordination, various strategic initiatives, and private sector engagement across the committee's broad jurisdiction which includes tax, international trade, and healthcare. In this role, he led the committee’s Democratic strategy on the 2025 One Big Beautiful Bill Act and the 2023 Fiscal Responsibility Act.
Previously Chris was a senior tax policy advisor with the Finance Committee and was closely involved in every major tax law enacted over more than a decade. Notably, he led development of major portions of the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act and various COVID relief bills, was closely involved in the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act process, and authored and coauthored numerous tax reform discussion drafts as part of the 2013 Baucus-Camp tax reform efforts.
He began his Senate career with the Finance Committee’s oversight and communication staff, where he coauthored numerous high profile health policy investigative reports. Chris holds an MA in public administration from American University, with an emphasis in public finance, tax policy, and economics; and a BA in journalism and history as a double major from the University of Montana.
